Thanks folks - had a look at sites mentioned and found someone else born at Barnwell Lodge but not at the same time as my grandma. Other sites are interesting but don't give any indication of how I might find out who was living there around the time my grandmother was born (1889-90). Same goes for Wadenhoe Manor - I know John Thomas Hearn and his wife worked there and the lady in charge at the time was Miss McQueen but this was after 1901 and I can't seem to find a way of tracing them. More headaches coming on ....but I'll not give up, well, not yet anyway. Mary |

Thanks - why didn't I think of that ? There's another house I want to check - Wadenhoe Manor Northants but all I can find on that is the current use of it as a conference centre.I e mailed the owners asking for some background but got no reply. Couple of rellies worked there in the 1900's - know the husband but can't trace his wife. Maybe I'll have more luck with Barnwell Lodge. Cheers all Mary |

My grandmother was born at Barnwell Lodge Northants. Does anyone know exactly what this building was and the exact address.I know she was born 'out of wedlock' and wondered if maybe her mother was a domestic servant at the Lodge at the time (around 1891). Is there anyway of finding out who was living at a particular house in any given year without aa census ? Mary Brooke |
