I think this has been mentioned before but I have been so impressed with the website I just had to recommend it again. The site is really just a catalogue of archives held at a variety of different places throughout the country, eg County Record Offices. It is still being updated as they all add their documents. HOWEVER in describing the documents held they often use a whole paragraph which might contain something of interest to you and thus will show up on the search. I have had loads of fun putting in ancestors names or villages, even an address gave a result. Lots of times you get nothing but I've been surprised at what comes up. If you then want more details you contact the archive listed. The point is you would never even have known to look for some of these things in the first place! Anne

Hi Anne, I've used that site too, that and the PRO catalogue. Between them I've found so much for my own family and my one name study. And yes, it's faster than most other sites I've used. Carole
