Thanks for the replies. Looks like we're stuck adding fictional rellies or changing the surname. GC - please can you add this to your list of improvements, we'll be forever grateful. Thanks.

Have the same problem with my German ancestors whose surname was Bumb/Bump/Bomb and got it changed to Boom. The trouble was, some of the siblings had been registered under either one of those names so I felt I needed to enter them separately under all three but then it got cluttered on the tree! Then I tried putting one rellie down as Joseph Bump/Bumb but realised he wouldn't get 'picked up' if someone searched for just one of those names. Still don't know how to get round it- there ought to be a separate search facility for this sort of thing whereby you can register someone under several variants at one time which will allow him to be 'accessed' should just one be typed in by another member....(it would also give ppl ideas on alternative ways to spell their rellies names!) Maybe GC could give us some tips......sorry I've babbled on !!! Aileenx

I have a similar problem with Horn and Horne and Tear and Teare so in order to keep track of all variations when I added one of the relatives (least likely to trace or lower on my list of priority lines to trace) I used the alternate spelling. Not exactly correct but it does keep me up with both spellings in each case. Hope this helps and if anyone else has another suggestion I'm all ears. Tracey

Good question Karen. I've got the surname Nellis that later changes to Nellist. I've currently got it under Nellis but would like to keep a track of Nellist too. I haven't discovered a way of doing it yet. Jeanette

I want to keep track of new names on GC under a couple of different surnames eg brooks and brookes. For my relative I added a second name under 'alternative surname' in the person's details but it didn't make any difference under the 'your names' section. Besides searching on the second version of the name every couple of days is there any way to keep an eye on new entries for the second name without creating a fictional relative with the second name? Thanks karen
