Experience has shown that census ages should be treated as a guide rather than a fact.

Emma got your email and the other information from the census, thankyou very much. Stan thanks again for your help, I remembered you gave me lots of help when I was chasing my Ringrose's. Jeanette, a big help, I did not know they were so close. Thankyou Sue.....................

Don't know if it's any help Sue but North and South Cave are pretty close together. Jeanette

Always ignore the year in the 1881 transcript. It is apparently based on an American convention of "age in year of census", instead of the British one of "age at date of census". Consequently it is only correct for those people born between January and March (The 1881 census was held on 3 April). Stan

I am a bit confused about this one. I have been on the IGI to look for Fred Holmes it tells me that he was born 1870 Beverley parents Joseph Holmes and Mary C. I then went to the 1881 the family were there but it said mother Mary E Holmes, Fred born Beverley 1872.I then went to Family group record on the IGI and found Joseph Holmes birth North Cave Yorkshire but on the 1881 it told me that Joseph Holmes was born South Cave Yorkshire, it said Mary C was born 1843 on the family group record IGI and on the 1881 she was born 1843, is it possible that all these errors can be made or have I got different people?? Sue.................
