Stewart, The only way I know, and thats because I had to do it the hard way, is by a few days at Kew and find:- Units that were there at the relevant time, and then search the muster rolls for the unit(s). A long and tedious job. Ray

according to the 1881 & 1891 census' my great great grandfather, Thomas Sear, was born in Jamaica in about 1832. In 1861 he was living in Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire although that census has his birthplace as being in Bedfordshire, but i know that the birthplaces can get confused on the census forms. My problem is finding out why he was born in Jamaica. His father was Richard Sear, but I know nothing else about him. He must've come to England sometime between 1832 & 1853 (the date of his marriage in Aspley Guise). Would there be a record of this somewhere? can anyone help? stew
