Hope that some nice person, might know where I can look for information on troopships from the Boer war, mainly the SS Himilaya and SS Armenian. Any help will be much appreciated. Liz

Elizabeth, Have you looked at PROCAT - the Public Record Office online catalogue. I've found several ships that way. They hold Ship's' Logs and their search engine will tell you for which years. Just put the names individually in the search box with no 'HMS' or whatever ... Also, there's a really good 'ships' website, created by a very helpful fellow ... www.cronab.demon(.)co(.)uk (remove brackets. It lists Ships of the Royal Navy from A-Z - Michael Phillips, the creator, was most helpful in pinning down a ship on which one of my ancestors sailed. In either case, you won't find lists of people on board - so they'll provide heaps of incidental information which would help you build a story around something you already know. Happy Hunting! Jane

Just a thought as you are (presumably) in SW16. Go into the PRO at Kew. They have books of names of individuals who went to the Boer War. Jim

Jim, That's helpful info ... didn't know they actually had listings of Boer War soldiers at the PRO. Very many thanks for sharing that with us. Regs Jane
