Can you order certificates form local regisrars using the GRO index details. I've looked on the application forms and they want all the details about the event but don't give anywhere to give the GRO index if you have it. Can this only be used for ordering from GRO?

jenny i rang 2 reg offices recently to order birth certs, and when i offered the index refs they said that meant nothing to them, they went on names, dates etc. so yes the index ref is only good for ordering online or from the gro. regards julie

Hi Jenny, I don't think that the local registrars require the index numbers that you see appertaining to the GRO. If I have them I usually quote them anyway. However the month, year and quarter are the most important items for the local offices; Regards Ernest
