At any record office (archive) in England you can search the 'Probate Calendar' which has been published every year since 1858 and lists every will which was proved in that year in the country (not just locally). NOTE this is not necessarily the year in which the person died and could be even a few years later. I have had some great results from wills, specially one of a gguncle who did not have children of his own. He mentioned eleven people in his will and tied up lots of loose ends!! Anne

Anybody looking for older Scottish wills may have luck at www.scottishdocuments(.)com - leave out the brackets as always! David

Also PRO wills, just type in the surname and see if there are any that could be yours. These are the early ones before 1850. You can download a copy for £3.00 and save it to your computer. Found a few of those and they are very useful. Irene

A good place for old wills on line is www[.] documentsonline[.]pro[.]gov[.]uk as always take out the brackets

I've seen lots of people mention about looking at old wills etc. How on earth do you find these wills? Caroline
