I received a will yesterday from 1912 and my rellie left £1,912. Does anyone know what that would be worth in todays money? Tracey

Possibly about £120,000. It's not really possible to compare, in my opinion; the things that people buy nowadays are so different. A century ago they paid their rent, bought their food and a new dress/pair of trousers every year. £2000 would have bought four good houses. This tells you about "the value of the pound" http://www.parliament.uk/commons/lib/research/rp2003/rp03-082.pdf

I checked out: http://www.eh.net/ehresources/howmuch/poundq.php and put in the figures you gave and it came up with this amount £118.669.79. This amount is equal to what it would have been in 2002, that's as close as you can get. Try for yourself just to check. I hope it helps.
