As with some of my relatives she may have had a second name that has got confused with her real surname. For example ,my wifes Grandfather was buried as Watts but his wife buried much later was buried as Hollis-Watts. My wife has the name Hollis on her birth certificate as a christian name! Check to see if she had any other names. Good luck.

Unfortunately not. The system works like this, births marriages and deaths are registered with the local registrars. All original registers are held by District Registrars who have the duty to send copies (hand transcriptions, copies depends on year) to the GRO. This caused many errors and omissions also there have been errors in compiling the index.Worse still, some of the earlier hand written indexes were re-typed introducing more errors. Then the originals were destroyed! (this is why some of the ealier indexes are typed before the typewriter was invented) It is a known fact that the national indexes are incomplete and they are still amended when errors/omissions are found. If you know the district where the death took place try the district office. People on these boards have found records there not on 1837. Bob
