Evening All, Received some certs this morning and just updating my notes. One of the marriage certs give an occupation of my GG Grandfather as Silk Do--ser. It lools like a g then an l. Any ideas? Thanks Naomi

Hi Tracey, It could be a silk doubler. It's quite hard to read. Do you know what a sild doubler did? Naomi

A silk doubler operates a machine that twists together strands of silk to make a yarn. A cotton doubler does the same with cotton. The name today usually refers to the machine and not the operator. John

Thanks John, On closer inspection though it doesn't look like it can be doubler. Definitely looks more like a "g" than a "b" Naomi

Could it be doffer? I know the word exists, but unfortunately not what it means. Stan
