You need to "grow" your tree from yourself back to your great grandfather and THEN work from him forward in time to add your grandfather's siblings and your uncles and aunts. You can't start from your great grandfather in isolation unless you put him as the author of the tree instead of yourself.

Not thick just haven't done it yet. Like most things we have to do it a couple of times to remember. Irene

Hi Tyne, With regard to people still alive. You have to start with yourself and add your parents, then their parents etc, etc. Most people get round this by putting Living in the christian name followed by the surname, you can put the correct year of birth, doesn't give too much away. Debbie

the summary comes from your family tree and you can see particular names by putting the surname into the quick search box, usually to the right of the page in a small box

I know I must sound a bit thick but how do you list the names you are researching so that others can see them and you can identify matches? I havent done a family tree on here because I didn't want to list people that were living - wanted to start at my gt grandfather - but the only way I can see that I can add names is to put him as my father on the tree. Is this the way that you do it though, create the family tree and then those names show up in the summary? And how do other members get to see them? Any advice would be appreciated for this newbie to GC. Best wishes Tyne
