I've come to a halt on one branch of the family. My great grandfather is called William Griffiths, he married Caroline Payton in 1880 and on the certificate it states his father as William Griffiths. I've been looking for his birth on FreeBMD and come up with 2 possibles - William Griffiths June 1859 Birmingham and William Griffiths June 1859 Aston Does anyone know if there is a way to find the one whose father is also named William without me paying for 2 birth certificates? |

Linda when you apply for the birth cert ask them to do a reference check saying that you only want the certificate for the father with the correct name. It does cost an extra £3.00 to do this through the GRO. If they are both the same records office you could apply direct to them and they may not charge at all. if you're applying online I have an email somewhere from the GRO explaining how to do this as it isn't very clear on the website |
