Can anyone tell me what a Creed Register is? I'm trying to trace my grandfather who was born in a workhouse, but the records finish a year before he was born. I'm told there is a creed register for this workhouse? Does anyone know what this is? Thanks B Ashton

Go the website www.newadvent.org, and look under Catholic Encyclopedia... poor laws. There is a very full explanation. It is something to do with the Poor Law board and workhouse masters, having to keep a register of the religious creed of the inmates.Hope this helps.
