Where are war dead registered?

Please can someone help. I believe my great grandfather died in the first world war . I have looked for him on the CWGC site but because many do not have any personal details such as age or relations, I cannot find him. Are the war dead also registered in this country? Will I be able to find him on the 1837 site? If so, were their deaths added after the war or would they be registered at the correct time of death? I hope someone can help? Thank-you Angelina

Try asking for help on the 1914-18.net site someone there may be able to help you especially if you know his regiment. If not there is advice on the site to help you. It is free to join. Regards Christina

i do census look ups for derbyshire 1891 on the derbyshire lookup exchange website, there is also a chap on there who dose look ups for the dead of the great war terry reeves, he uses a cd that contains all the dead not just those on the war graves site, he says many that came home injure and died in hospital here are not listed on the war graves website, go to the genuki home page/ derbyshire/derbyshire lookup exchange and you can find him there

War dead are in separate index books at the FRC. 1837 on-line are in the process of scanning them and hope to add them to the site this year. In the meantime your best bet is to phone the General Register Office at Southport direct. Apparently they are very helpful with this type of query. Maz. XX
