Diane, a family tree programme is software that you can buy from somewhere like Smiths or PC world, load on your computer, and use to store your family tree. You can create reports, enter all your census and BMD information, print all combinations of trees etc. There is a thread on this board called 'Family Tree Software' which is asking for recommendations. I think they will mostly cost about twenty quid to buy. The LDS site is run by the Church of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, and is called FamilySearch. It is all free and you can see more by clicking on Resource Centre on the left here. Then go to Getting Started, then to Links and look for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - please be reassured that you will not be sent anything from them and they will definitely not be trying to convert you! If you need to know anything else then do not hesitate to ask. Good luck and happy hunting! Maz. XX

Hi Diane, If you go to the home page on LDS you'll see near the top it will say 'order/download products', click on it and then you'll see it says 'software downloads-free', click on that and then pick which program you want to download. Hope it makes sense. Tracey

Hi Diane, I use the PAF which you can download free from Latter Day Saints (family search). I've been able to print it out like a book type of thing which even has a name index at the back! It's really quite good, give it a go. Tracey

Never have this site as your only input of your data. What would happen if the site went down for good? you would lose everything. Use a genealogy program on your computer. There are loads to chose from and you can print off as many trees and reports as you want Margaret
