Does anyone know if death certificates from 1839/40 give information about informant of death eg name of wife/husband? Thanks Anne |

They do tell you the name and residence of the informant, but it is not always the spouse - quite often all it says is 'present at the death' this could either mean a nurse, midwife, friend, neighbour, relation etc. And of course all the other information on the certificate is purely down to this person - no wonder there are often errors on death certs!
