Hi Guys I've had dinner now and washed the mud from my wellies after being in our flood areas today- so they are nice and clean for the next downpour expected to morrow, - and feel a lot better. I think Brian has answered my problem - I didn't realise you could upload Ged com and it made a difference. I did all mine manually and knew I couldn't get out without entering something. Tis true you learn something new every day but retaining it is getting to be a problem! I have found a descendant of my great grandfather's sister on this site and my expectations are high. But she didn't know that her great grandma had 7 siblings so even down under, in the flood, I was ahead of her!! So I have been lucky! I'll try not grizzle next time I'll just grit my teeth, gird my loins, grab my wellies and go out to move some more dead sheep from the fence. Cheers Marlene in NZ

The use of Private information is widely used in many family trees as it prevents info about living people being abused etc

I have recently found that a new name is posted and it has 'Private Information' noted against it with no place of birth or date. Very off-putting.

It's not just new members where details are missing, it's anyone who uploads their information from a gedcom file. If you input the data to GC manually you can't leave certain fields blank. If you upload a file the restrictions don't apply.

Hi Marlene, I also check my names every day, I agree it`s not very nice when people don`t reply but don`t get disheartened! I have connected with one `new` cousin on the site, and have also made contact with some lovely people who, although we don`t connect are very helpful with what info they have and we never know if we might connect at a later date! Also I have had a few problems with GC mail getting `lost` in cyberspace! Keep trying, you will get there in the end. Rebecca

Marlene...I totally agree! I look every day over breakfast.... cornflakes in the keyboard....and I sometimes suffer from web rage. Joan

Hi Marlene, I also have mine set for 1 day and like you check them every day, I have to agree with you. It seems to be happening more and more, all that is on there is a name..no info on when and where born.....very frustrating!! Gail.

Give an indication of where and when their families were born. I have my new messages set for one day and check religiously! Even a guess at the country/county would help until you're certain. I am getting rather tired of those who give not the slightest clue, then don''t answer your query! And those who answer rather irately "Couldn't possible be connected -my John XYZABC was born in Australia in 1982 " or similar!! Am I supposed to be psychic or have I missed something? Grateful any advice. Marlene
