I've got Lydia Arkell marrying Henry Bren 30 Nov 1828 Christ Church Greyfriars Newgate London. They had 3 children Jane, Christopher John and Frederic Cornelius. The 1881 Census shows Lydia Brew sic aged 80 born Westminster with her daughter Jane and son-in-law William Mantle and their family. I found a George Arkel christened 1 Oct 1792 St James Westminster London - parents George Arkel and Susanna Palminter thought they could be possible parents. Can't find Lydia's birth anywhere. Any ideas? Christine

Have you seen the Parish records for her marriage, could she be a widow, even perhaps of the younger George you found?

Hi Gwyneth, Lydia's husband Henry Bren died 1878 Islington London Middlesex age 70.

Have you viewed the entry of her marriage to Henry? Was she perhaps widow ARKELL when she married Henry? , ie Lydia ??? who married an ARKELL. Mr ARKELL then died making her Lydia ARKELL free to marry Henry. You wouldn't then find her birth under ARKELL. A look at the marriage entry would be my first step, to establish her status, spinster or widow.

I agree with Gwyneth Go for the marriage details first otherwise it is a case of assuming which could completely throw you off course.
