Being a transcriber is easy. (If I can do it - anyone can). If you go to the freeBMD site, look at "Join Freebmd". Once you have registered, find a syndicate that is looking for people. I belong to the Scan2. This syndicate will send you a 'test' page plus instructions on what to do and when you have completed it, you will then be allocated a couple of pages to do. You download these from links given to you. When you have completed them, you upload to Freebmd and your syndicate and on you go.... I have completed 1000 pages in just over a year. If you need anyother help - just shout. Nesta

Nesta, How exactly does one become a transcriber and what exactly is involved ?

As a transcriber, thanks. Why not join us, Hilary? The more transcibers - the better. And you feel that you are really doing something worth while. Nesta

Free BMD is the most marvellous website for genealogists, so whatever they are doing, I applaud them!

Just noticed a message on FreeBMD warning of possible intermittent performance while they upload a new update and bring more records online !! Says the update should be completed by 1 March.
