Good morning to you all, Patricia,Gwynneth,Julie,Jim and Margaret. Thanks for all your messages I will still keep looking. Had not known that it is unlikely that I will get the Fathers name or in deed a certificate. Once again thank you one and all. Anne-Marie.

Julie It is very unlikely that you will get the name of the fathers before 1837 on a parish record. The system changed in 1837 and the format after that is the same as on a marriage cert as we know it now. Margaret

Parish Registers. These are highly dependant on the quality of the Parish Clerk. Some of them give all the info we need, some only give the date and names of Bride & Groom. You will find spelling errors galore as you get further back and your ancestors were illiterate. The Clerk wrote down what he heard. Thus my 6th GGma and her sister were recorded as "Wedrald". Also the Registers were not always written up at the time. Perhaps just a note on a piece of paper, and then Transcribed into the Registers a few days later. Good Hunting. Jim Weatherall

Hi, Registration did not begin until July 1837 so you will not get a marriage certificate. However, you can get a copy of the marriage entry in the parish records from the county record officefor a small fee. The entry will have the names of the bride and groom, their parish(es), whether or not either was under 21 plus the names of two witnesses (who may or may not be related). Gwynne

Hi, How do I find the information to order a marriage certificate from 1832. I have details given to me about the marriage of Edward Noble and Ann Davidson on 16 Aug 1832 at Mitford St. Mary Magdalene Parish Church. This is in Northumberland. I have tried various sites that have been mentioned on the board but no joy. Thanks Anne-Marie
