Fantastic site....but where would i find the Union workhouse Leytonstone?....it doesn't seem to be listed anyone got any ideas? Cheers Jayne

Sigh not coming up with Leytonstone...West ham yes but Leytonstone no...i really would love to see the originals if possible....my great grandmother was born there and i was hoping to get more information on her.

Hello Jayne If you go to the workhouse website and type Leytonstone London you will get a list come up. There is one for Bethnel Green Middlesex London and it mentions a Leytonstone poor law union workhouse. Click on it and it will tell you information about it and that the London Metropolitan Archives have some registers. Some are for Leystone Childrens homes Admissions and Discharges 1915-1933 Births 1901-1914 also some deaths. Click on the other sites too you might find something else. Shirley

Thanks Shirley You realy got me going on this site ,my bith cert 1937 has me born at 30 Twickenham Rd Isleworth Middlesex and this looks like the address for the workhouse .We live and learn . Can anyone confirm my theory Margaret

Beware of renumberings - most roads are nowadays odd/left, even/right but it was not always so. See if you can find the address of a pub "then and now" and see if it changes.

so it looks like the work house in West Ham is my Union Workhouse Leytonstone thats on my great Grandmothers Birth Certificate. Now i need to check the entries for 1864...lol
