ok so far i have found out with a little help from a lot of people, that I've got grouped together: John 40, b. Framwellgate, Railway Guard Mary, 40, b. Pelton Fell Christina, 15, b. Pelton Fell James, 11, b. Waldridge John, 6, b. Waldridge Mary, 3, b. Waldridge Matthew, 2, b. Waldridge. but on John lamberts marriage certificate it says his father was a coal screener do you think he could have changed jobs in 20 years.. If this is the right one what do i do know ????? should i look for marriage certificate of john davison and mary is so wher do i look.

Hi On the 1891 census John is described as a waggon man (coal), Mary has J or I as a middle initial. A Jane J or I Welsh (aged 13) is staying with them, she is described as a 'niece'. This is a juicy clue. if you're lucky you might be able to find whether this was Mary's maiden name, failing that the Welsh must be related somehow. I couldn't wait for you to look so I had a look on FREEBMD for marriages between John Davison and Mary Welsh. There is one that might be yours in Chester le Street in 1885. You could look for a Mary J Welsh on 1881 census born 1861 Durham ..... I am not going to tell you any more!!!!!!! It might spoil your fun. Just a tip though. You should make absolutely sure this is your family before you delve any further. Many of us, I'm sure, have tripped up by making assumptions in early 1900s and tracked the wrong family. Ann xx

Susan, To come back to your original question, It seems as if there is a promotional curve to your Relly. Coal screener, Wagonman, Train Driver? Maybe the local Railway History Society may have employment records? Good luck Jim

Hello again Look on Resource Centre on the left of this screen. Click on Links, and then the web link to the latterday saints site. When you get there select census and then UK 1881 census and type in what you are looking for. It's a great site. xx Ann xx
