Formal adoption Laws were not introduced until 1927. Before this people made their own arrangements and very rarely if at all was any documentation used. If the parish records went up in smoke you may be lucky and find some Bishops transcripts which were copied once ayear from the parish records and sent to the Bishop. What you need to do is find what Dioseces the parish was in, try Phillimores parish records atlas at your nearest reference libruary. Good Luck

I do need help, I am looking for a Jane Wallbank fathers name George Spencer. I have come to conclusion that George died when Jane was very young and mother remarried a Wallbank, Please could anyone tell me where I could find adoptions for Lancashire around 1835/1841? she was born Penwortham but, records for that church were destroyed in a fire. What a brick wall eh.
