Just wanted to shout in elation -a certificate I ordered was posted and arrived on time today!! Mind you the other seven I ordered two days prior have not yet arrived! Jackie |

Jackie was it one to help solve your mystery??? and you often find one will arrive on time but when you order several they seem to take longer, i suppose it takes longer to get a group together for posting than just one Shelli |

Sadly no Shelli. This was a nice easy one from my side! Still waiting on the other. Wish I had names and dob's so I can send for one!! Now working on LH. Found 4 possible marriages for her. Which one is it -Jul-Sept 1918 Croydon, 1921 Bromsgrove, 1921 Islington or 1922 Paddington? Let me know your thoughts Jackie |

Jackie Tough Call, I'd think the croydon one, but to be honest the way people moved around, hard to be certain. Have just checked Croydon archives and they do have some parish roecords, but most of them don't go late enough. For the main parish church of corydon the archive only hold records up to 1900 and the other one in croydon only goes to 1903. Shame you don't know one of her parents names you could use it as a checking point Shelli |

Yes -I also feel very tempted by the Croydon one. Could check on the husband though - Pilmer. Less common name. May be the reason why baby was offloaded. Trouble is, i don't want to start going down the wrong road without hard evidence. Did I tell you have found a HM in Clewer where adoptive gmother came from. Reckon however, name could have been HDudley, JDudley but wonder if he could falsify his name on a sworn declaration. My hubby reckons no as could be sent to prison for making a false declaration. The Clewer HM would only have been 18 in 1918 -old enough I suppose. Jackie |

Jackie this gets more interesting at each step!!! not sure about name changes people wasn't so hot on legal proceedures as they are today. people chopped and changed names all the time, you only have to look at census returns to see that. But on a legal document really not sure. It would certainly explain where the Dudley name came from wouldn't it?? and if his name was really H Dudley then it would explain how he appeared and then disappeared wouldn't it? Shelli |

What threw me was a response to a question by the genealogist question and answer session on the home page of GC.He said nearly all iiligit ch were given the father's surname as their middle name. However, the HM you found in the next road seems very plausible, doesn't it. To make it even more intriguing, the adoptive gpa's lived next door to a JD and there is a HD a few doors down! (where JW grew up as a child in Battersea) I'm so confused! Jackie |
