At last ! Think I might have found something on FreeBMD Dec 1893 Walsingham 4b/283 = Sydney Frank Barnet I think Barnet / Barnard is a likely enough margin of transcription error to go ahead and order the certificate. Thanks to all those, across a number of threads, who have helped me in my attempts to track this down. Simon

Sorry Simon, Kathleen beat me to it, you must have incredable eyesight, i started to search just came back on page to re-check details and you had done it , writing is incredably small, and blurry when magnified....guess i had better book a appointment at the optician. best of luck with your search Simon. Thanks a lot for looking Kathleen - much appreciated. If Sydney's spirit is looking down he's probably been shocked by my language lately - he's proving to be my most elusive relative so far ! Simon

Simon Have checked on 1837online from October 1892 to December 1894 and can find no Sydney Frank. Only two Sydneys are Sydney James Bardard Westbury S. 6a 264 in 2nd qtr 1893 and Sydney Edmund R. Barnard, A*bridge 5c 486 4th qtr 1893. Lots of my ancestors lied about their ages on marriage certificates so this could be the case with yours.

Sheila, That would be great if you could - I would really appreciate it. His name is Sydney Frank Barnard. On his marriage certificate, in Oct 1915, he is listed as 22 years old so, if this was correct, he should have been born after Oct 1892 or in 1893. Cheers Simon

Yes, if you are prepared to pay for it. Other info like occupations would perhaps narrow down their search.

I need to order my gr-granfather's birth certificate and definitive information I can get from the internet isn't really there - he doesn't show up at all on FreeBMD and censuses aren't very helpful as he was born after 1891 and the three possibilities on 1901 don't seem very conclusive. I have his first and second names, his age on his marriage certificate (so can calculate a three year search period), and the first and second names of his father. I can't suggest to them where he was born as that is the very thing I need the certificate for to confirm. Will this be enough info for the central GRO to do a search ?
