Pte is short for Private Bn is short for Battalion In the US Army, GMG is basically a job description I think - Gunner's mate (Guns).

While clrearing the loft I have found an old sertificate issued with war service badge and I can't read the unit abbreviations ---it says This is to certify that no-- 02882 Rank--Pte John Johnson Unit--2nd ??Bn G M G Co is entitled to wear War Service Badge corresponding to Class and Number shown by this Certificate He was my Uncle who I think was in The Canandian Forces ?? Army Anyone who can transcrbe this please I will be grateful Ann,Darlington
