Jackie if you use the local office it only costs £7 +SAE . If they can't find it you get a full refund I believe. Bob

Think I'll take Hilary's advice, Mike!! Not really into funeral directors!! Would have to be really desperate -which I am -but obviously not desperate enough. Good thinking though! Jackie

Jackie. . . . Just a thought. . . . Have you tried contacting the Funeral Directors within the area for the death date ? MIKE.

The online ordering system restricts you but the old fashion paper version doesn't. If you download a Death Certificate order form and send £8.50 you will be able to get it OK.

I know for certain that this 50 year thing is not law. The Leeds offiice do searches for recent deaths. Have you had a look on here http://www.sutton.gov.uk/Sutton/A-Z+Services/A+to+Z.htm I hope its the right office. If you put death certificate in the search box it will get you to a printable application form. Bob

you might get the date of death from a newspaper notice, or the wills index (which has administrations as well as actual wills)

Have tried to order a death certificate for 1969. I have the year, quarter, volume and page number. However, 1837online won't let me order it without the exact date of death as the death occurred within the last 50 years. How do I find the exact date, or is there any other way I could order the cert? Have tried ringing the Reg Office directly(Sutton) but am met with a recorded message each time. Any ideas? Jackie
