I cannot find any reference to this property and yet I know that one of my relatives bought it in 1932. Her name was Dorothea Allen (also known as Dora Brammer). She founded Spencer Corsets in 1927. Does anyone know anything about it? Liz |

Couldn't find anything about a manor but there is a Sutton under and Sutton upon brails so a manor would be quite likely. The 1901 would probably be the place to look. Have you seen the site on corsets: http://www(.)corsetiere.net/ No actual history of the Spencer company but wonderful photo's of the product. ALL the ladies should go and have a look.... Bob |

About two-thirds the way down this page is mention of someone born at Brailes Manor (he was a labourer!). http://www.rootsweb.*com/~cotswold/ebring71.txt (Delete star) |

I've now found out that the house was originally called Hermitage Farm. It was extended after 1932 and was then known as The Hermitage or Sutton Brailes Manor. Does this help anyone to identify its location? Liz |

Try having a look at http://www.old-maps.*co.uk/ (remove *) Search using sutton-under-brailes (with hyphens) and look around the area. I couldn't find it, but I didn't look too hard. |

Thanks Geoff, I had a look at the old maps website. I found Sutton-under-Brailes but not Hermitage Farm. Even so, I found it an interesting site and looked up many places mentioned in my tree. Liz |
