Hi Margaret, There were no electoral rolls during any years of WW2 Gwynne

I think the format of electoral rolls changed at some point. Nowadays when you go to vote, the list is in address order. Lists up until 1925 (at least) were in alphabetical order for each town/village and the ones I have seen have street name but no number.

Thanks for that info Robert but if I can look on an electoral roll when women were mentioned at least I'd find out the christian name of the wife I'm looking for. Trying to work through family names as a process of elimination is proving to be frustrating especially as I'm not certain of her christian name, only the name she was always known as. So, please, someone, where can I look ? I know where the couple lived and worked when they were married so I feel I'm nearly there - so near yet so far away ! Mary Brooke

Sheila, The only other way of getting an idea if age is to use friendsreunited. If they have posted a profile, it often says where they are living and so you can cross ref this with the electoral role plus guess their age from their school dates. Hilary

Hi HIlary, It was some-one recent i wanted to trace, and i managed to get on b4usearch and find what i needed shame theres no age of the person as well, at least you could be more sure if that was the person your after, if its a really common name. But thanks for your help. Sheila

Am I right in thinking that there weren't any electoral registers in 1940 because of the war? Margaret

Mary most women won't appear until 1919 when they were given the vote at age 30. This was lowered to 21 about 1929 Bob

When did Electoral roles first start ? I need to find a marriage after 1901 and only know the husbands name. Are there any sites this early ? Mary Brooke

b4usearch only has recent electoral roll data - and then just name and address. I don't know of any other online material. I've never used the e.r originals, but I can't imagine they show age - we don't even give that now.

Sorry to sound a bit dim, but can anyone tell what specific information is on an electoral role, just full name of resident and address, or does it also state age. Also if i wanted to find if a particular family lived in a house in 1940, what would i need to do is it possible to access both these things on-line. ( i have already tried b4usearch) but at the moment am unable to access there site. Thanks a lot. Sheila
