Thank you very much for your help. I have now found Richard and Ann in the 1881 census, but under the surname of MERCH. Obviously mistranscribed, but not an immediately obvious one. And one of the other daughters has a middle name of Whittle. Eureka. Andy.

Susie. Thank you very much for that. It is very helpful. That is the Anne I am looking for. The 1901 census gives a place of birth of Skelmersdale, but there is no Anne or Annie born in Skelmersdale in 1881. Is there no other info for this Annie? Anything would be useful. Andrew.

Hi Susie. Thanks for looking for me. I am getting extremely confused about this family. I do not know the first name of Anne's mother, only that her maiden name could be Whittle. I do not have the information on a Thomas. It would be much appreciated if you could pass it on. Thank you. Andrew.

I need some help trying to find a Mercer family. I am trying to find an Anne Mercer, born 1871. She married a James Scarisbrick in 1892. The marriage certificate gives her place of residence as Scarisbrick, Lancashire, and her father as Richard Mercer, a farmer. I have looked through the 1881 census to try to find this family, however none seem to match up. If anyone could give any help to find them, it would be much appreciated. If someone could do a 1891 lookup, that would be helpful as that would be just before she married. The only other information I have is that she had a sister, Jane or Janie, who never married, and the mothers maiden name could be Whittle. Thanks, Andrew.
