Hi, I'm using Family Historian 2.0 and a contact wants to send me a gedcom file but does not know what type Family historian uses. He can use the following:- UTF8 Unicode ANSEL ANSI. Anyone have any idea which one Family Historian can accept cos i have'nt got a clue? He has sent me a GEDCOM file 5.5 with ansel character set, I've saved it to my documents but dont know how to download it. Can you help please?

My copy of Family Historian includes a Quick Start Tutorial in which instructions for this are given on pages 2 and 3. The program can load all GEDCOM (5.5) fields. You should have a User Manual - an online document that is installed when you installed Family Historian. You should simply be able to start up Family Historian and open the file you have received from where you have saved it, provided it was 'exported' by the sender. Family Historian uses GEDCOM (5.5) as its own format, so you just open it, not 'import' it. All 2.0 and 2.1 users can download a free upgrade to version 2.2 from the Internet. This has recently been released. I have found it contains useful improvements, and is definitely worth downloading. Regards Stan
