Is Ancestry worth the £70 fee?

I'd say; pay the money if you can afford it, I did and have found it useful. If the budget is a little tight, then there are plenty of us on here willing to do lookups...

I use it all the time, excellent value, careful though the subscriptions are automatically renewed without notification. Suggest if you do decide to pay keep a copy of your registration on disc in case you want to stop in a year or so. Once you give your card details to a company they can automatically withdraw money from your account under the agreement and unless you notify them they will continue doing it. Ancestry is one of those. Gf

I would say it was worth it for the 1891 census, and now they are beginning the 1871 census it should be even better value. Stan

Dont forget that it says in the small print that taxes are added to the price as well. I opted for the quarterly payments to see if it was worth the money before commiting myself but I am now starting to worry because some people seem to have had difficulty when it comes to cancelling the subscription.

Hi Karen, I know it gives you the 1891 census, as a lot of kind people on this site will do look ups for you. You can get the free trial for a fortnight, to see how you get on. I would also like to know from anyone what else this site gives you ? Sue...................

As a relative newbie I'm just starting to find my way around the search sites out there. Question I have - is it worth paying for Ancestry? Does it give you anymore than what you can find in other places (for free). Thanks.
