Jeanette The 1851 isn't searchable by name, not that I know about anyway. But if you have an address I'll look it up for you. Also have the London 1861 and 71 if thats a help. Lynda

Thanks everyone for answering my query. London just seems so confusing to me! Lynda Is your 1851 census searchable by name? If it is, could you take a look for my 2x great Grandfather for me to see if he's there. This is what I know. Frederick William Lock born c1838 Greenwich, Kent (he changed this to Ridge, Herts in 1881 and 1901 which is where he was living). His age is constant throughout though. I know it's not much to go on with such a common name, but anything would be better than nothing. Thanks Jeanette

And just to confuse things, it is on the Kent census returns at least until 1871. I believe that it was taken into the London census area in/after 1891. Research for Greenwich is covered by the North West Kent family history society. Pauline

Can anybody tell me where Greenwich is? What is it known as these days? Is Stepney is this area? Thanks Jeanette
