HELP--ANCESTRY CANCELLATION

I took out a paid subscription but was worried because I had heard that ancestry can sometimes automatically renew without telling you. So as soon as my account was set up, I emailed them advising them that I did not wish to renew once the current subscription had expired and asking for email confirmation that this had been noted. I got a message back very quickly, which I have filed in case of problems, confirming no further funds would be taken from my account and hoping I would enjoy the site until my subscription ran out. All very civilised. Angela

Carol: Save the e-mail you send Ancestry just in case you need to show proof that you cancelled. Called your bank or your credit card company if the charges appear and advise them to reverse the charge as you did not authorize Ancestry to charge the account as you had cancelled and that you are disputing it with Ancestry. Then call Ancestry and tell them....They are usually pretty good about taking the charge off if you are insistant. I cancelled on February 3 as per their instructions by sending an e-mail and they have yet to cut me off at the site. I will wait for my credit card to see if they have charged me or not and correct the problem then...in the mean time I'll continue to enjoy the site at their expense as it's their error. Judy

I have tried twice now to cancel my free trial (don't have enough info yet to warrant a full subscription). I haven't had a response and can still access the site - hoping they don't go ahead and take the money from my account!!

I recently received a reminder that my subscription was due for renewal, and was told that if I wanted to cancel it I should send an email to cancel at ancestry(.)co(.)uk (remove brackets, and put in the "at" sign without spaces either side). Perhaps that would work for you. They asked for the following information to be in the body of the email: * first and last name * username * subscription type (e.g. Annual U.K. and Ireland subscription, Quarterly U.K. and Ireland subscription, Free Trial, etc.) * e-mail address used when subscribing * telephone number including country code But why cancel? Its such a useful site, I'd be lost without it. Jan.
