Hello! I got a birth reference from freebmd and went to the registry office earlier...however, they said they had no record of the birth...and that it referred to a marriage - however, on freebmd there is of course the number you can click on which shows you the rest of the people with the same reference...why has the one I want disappeared??? Richard Eaton...born Leigh, Lancashire December quarter 1873. Any help appreciated as always, Amanda x

Hi Amanda, The references on Freebmd are the GRO references I think - my local office here just ask for the quarter and the year and can find them straight away.

Unfortunately they tried that way too but still nothing...it's very odd....

Just looked Amanda and freebmd has got him down for 1875 LEIGH ,DECEMBER , 8C 294 not 1873 try that ..... done the same thing myself . KIM

the first time I went for certs i had a list of all the references from freebmd and marched in and said i wanted these certs here are the ref numbers - they explained what i really needed so i got what i was after :-)

Hi Kim... I can't see that entry on freebmd...I see a Dec 1873 then an 1895...can you see something I can't ??? Amanda x

Don't know really I just typed in Eaton, Richard selected |Leigh in the district box and found these,....Sept 1871 marriage 8c 263 |june 1872 marriage 8c 309| Sept 1872 Death age 55 8c 120 | Dec 1873 birth forgot nos!| Then the entry above | then marriage Mar 1879 8c 261 . hope you can find him out of this lot . cheers Kim whoops just notivced you were looking for a birth and that one a marriage, just go and crawl back under my rock...by bye..........
