It's just a thought but maybe the Prison Records are kept at the Public Records Office Kathy

Is it possible to find out what offence a criminal or prisoner commited and what their sentence was? I have just found an ancestor in Lewes prison on the 1881 census and wondered what he had done. He was missing from the 1891 census but is back at large by the 1901 census, Thanks...................Pam
