Can't speak for Swindon but yes if somewhere says they hold the GRO index, it means country-wide not just local. They are usually on fiche so you may have to book a fiche reader.

Try giving them a ring. I do know some Record centres have copies on film but never looked at them myself. Irene

ooops pasted the wrong bit, the bit i am wondering about is this bit in stars Apart from the newspapers already mentioned, certain other material is held on microform. Census information is available for the Swindon area from 1841 to 1881 and for the whole of Wiltshire for 1871,1891 and 1901. The International Genealogical Index of baptisms and marriages for the British Isles is a useful resource, especially for family historians. ****We also have the General Register Office index of births, marriages and deaths from 1837 to 1999***** hi i just found this on the website for our local reference library here in swindon, and wondered if anyone can tell if the bit with the stars means the full index or just local? was planning to go to the family records place in london next weekend, but now i spotted this im hoping i can save myself a trip "Apart from the newspapers already mentioned, certain other material is held on microform. Census information is available fro the Swindon area from 1841 to 1881 and for the whole of Wiltshire for 1891. *****The International genealogical Index of baptisms and marriages for the British Isles is a useful resource, especially for family historians"**** thanks!
