Just do a search for Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers. Click on Hugh Wallis, then just under Batch number click on (skip this stuff etc) this will take you to the Counties, click on the county and then A-Z which ever letter it starts with when the parish when it comes up, click on christenings dates or Marriage dates if there are any. Mostly before 1850. Good luck every one

A few words about the IGI and Church Records. First don't take what you have found as correct always check the source. If you find anything use it as a stepping stone. 2nd Not all records on are from the actual church records no doubt you have seen these they will have about on them, they are the ones with no actual christening/marriage date, one with a date may have been added later so you will see two then. Now they are adding the actual church records it will be getting better. On the christenings all you do get are the fathers name and the mother first names, this is all that the Church Records has for christenings. Before 1800 not many have the mothers name at all so it gets even harder. When the IGI first started don't forget they didn't have computers, this must have been before 1910 as I have a relative (a granddaughter of my gg grandfathers brother) who worked in the Library at Salt Lake doing what we are looking at now. They wrote to their relatives and collected information this way at first, then some of them started to come over and look at the records. One example was my gg grandparents marriage, they had put them as 1844 but I found it in Bath 1841 so it goes to show it does pay to check. There is another site, again from the IGI records called Counties in England, Batch Numbers, on this site you can go to a parish church and search by surname. I have been very lucky that I had a relative doing the search in 1910, Nellie collected lots of letters, I have recently been in touch with one of her brothers decendants and now have copies of these letters including some from my g grandparents. There is so much information in these letters that it would keep me busy for a year. So have fun you never know what is around the next corner. Irene

This game is not a perfect science - you just need oodles of intuition.

Help Im puzzled! I have been searching through the FRC IGI and how do you know for sure that the parents are those of your children you are looking for?Lots of it just says mother Mary - father Joseph. Why does the name spelling vary and how do you know which variations are yours? (My only guess is not many could write and it was done word of mouth) I am looking for Nickless so far on IGI I have found Nickless, Nicklass, Nickliss, NICLES, Nickles, NICHOLASSE. Is it a case of added average ages round area and correct parents and is there more info on the actual church records? a confused Jan x
