Nesta, I would suggest a phone call or e-mail to the PRO at Kew who hold Royal and Merchant navy records - they should at least be able to tell you where you could find information on your gt grandad. Maz. XX

My GGrandfather was a merchant seaman and 'lost' his ship three time, once had to spend three days on a self made raft in the North Atlantic (hence the Uncle Albert of Only fools and horses). I don't know the names of the ships or when these events happened (late 1800's early 1900's would be my guess) but would love to find out more. Does anyone know of sites that has information on shipwrecks and survivors? Thanks, Nesta
