Evening All, I've been researching my GG Grandfather James Lambert. I have the following census information 1861 census age 23 born, Horne Surrey. 1871 census age 33 born, Horne Surrey. 1881 census age 42 born, Horne Surrey. 1891 census age 53 born, Godstone, Surrey. However, I've been looking for his birth. I thought I found it in 1840 but when I got the certificate it was the wrong one. I've now found a James Lambert listed on IGI christened 29.04.1838, East Grinstead, Sussex. I'm pretty sure East Grinstead and Godstone are near to each other. Do you think they are close enough for it to be my one? Thanks Naomi

Hi Naomi: I was interested in your thread because my Vaus' lived in Surrey for a short time. Couldn't remember where I had seen the name Lambert before (whether you had posted it before, or I had seen it somewhere else). Looked through my Vaus binder and found a death for Elizabeth Lambert. Would she be "one of yours"? "Burials in the Parifh of Albury in the County of Surrey in the Year 1835...(name) Elizabeth Lambert, (abode) Albury, (when buried) Jan 13th, (age) years 75, (by whom the Ceremony was performed) John Hooper, Rector." If you have any other ancestors, I could look for them on my copies. I have about 12 sheets of baptisms and burials from 1826 through 1837 for Albury. If this is "your" ancestor I could try to scan the paper and send it to you, as it is a copy of a copy of a copy of the original burial register. :~) Please let me know if you would like me to look for more ancestors (only had the one entry for Lambert) or if you would like a scanned copy of Elizabeth's entry. (I will be working tomorrow, so I won't be able to answer you right away.)

Close enough to follow up. You'll probably find there was a connection, e.g. parents or grandparents were living at East Grinstead at the time, or the parents married there or had baptised other kids there. If there's no connection at all, then maybe it's dodgy
