Hi, My grandparents had one in the 1901 census. They were not particularly well off. I've seen several other households with them in the same working class area. I think they were almost essential following a difficult labour or if there were a lot of other children. Gwynne

I deleted this message by mistake. Someone had kindly offered to ask their mum about a relative who had been a monthly nurse. I know a m. nurse attended after the birth of a baby but the only one I'd seen in a household until recently was in a doctor's household. Now I've found out that one of my household had one in the home in 1851. Would be grateful for any more info. Valerie.
