Sue I did notice a section on sugar bakers but I have not read it yet. I had another look last night and saw a section on Bethnal Green where my husband came from an even in 1924 a family of 10 had 2 rooms to live in. It certainly opens our eyes. Shirley

Brilliant Shirley, thanks for passing on this site. It'll be a mine of information for me as my German sugar baker ancestors came over from Hannover to Whitechapel in the 1850s. Sue

Thanks for pointing out this site, Shirley - it makes everyday Victorian life (and later) come vividly alive Helen

I agree -it's absolutely brilliant and brings the whole area to life in the 19th century. A huge branch of my family came from the St Mathews Parish in Bethnel Green. Now I know why they uprooted and settled in Sheffield. If your family comes from the East End, please take a look. Jackie

Shirley, What a 'cracking' site. Having recently discovered my gggrandad, Robert Ferguson, was born around the Shadwell area in 1842 this is site is very very useful. For background info it can't be beat. Someone has obviously worked very hard on this site. Thank you John
