Amanda, Shelli is quite correct. To indicate that there is no more room for further interments the word "full" was used, and to indicate the number of interments still possible, a figure would be used. In the past most graves could hold a maximum of 4 interments, but nowadays 3 is the usual number (due to the health and safety issues involved in digging a grave deep enough to hold 4 interments) - it's some good way down!!! I was searching the burial registers today and lots had full next to them, but others had one more, in the margin. Others have only ashes interred. So i would say yes it appears the plot was full after your relative was put in Shelli |

Hello! In the left hand margin next to my g grandad's burial entry the vicar has written 'full' as opposed to one a few entries down which says 'vault'. Does this mean that he has been put in a family plot which was full after he was put in it...or does it mean it was full before and he was put somewhere else?? As always, any help gratefully received, Amanda x |
