I tend to save the images in Microsoft Word, then trim them down before I print them. Just remember to make a note of the RG ref. number before you chop it off!! Maggy

i know thi is off the subject a little, but for all there boasting at ancestry about there greyshade images, i think they print off crap the 1901 census ones print much better i do these on parchment coloured paper and they look good but if i do the 1891 on this paper they are unreadable, good to view on screen but most print very poorly even on white paper

Hi Joanne, I always crop the black because it does use a lot of ink, most photo imaging software will allow you crop the image.I usually crop the whole image then crop either side of the RG number. Steve

IN YOUR FAMILY TREE MAGAIZINE IT SAYS download the "tiff" image and not the "pdf" images and then use irfanview and crop the images .Download this from www.irfanview . com, save the census page on your hard drive and take the pointer to the top left of the page and press and hold down to drag there'll be a box around the bit you want click on each side to correct size .click crop selection in the Edit menu and the border will be removed. choose Irfanview to print image and select best fit to page and you won't have black edges. PLse note just copied this out from your family tree no 7 havent actually Tried to do it!!! I usully print the transcription page its easier to read but riddled with errors and I save census images just on computer! KIM

I think you have to have the black round the edges, because that is where the RG reference number is stuck on in a panel below each image when it is photographed. Stan

Hi, can any one tell me if you can print the census pages from 1891 with out all the black around the edges? I have saved them too but I can't enlarge the image to see clear either. Any help would be brilliant. Thanks, Jo
