Hi David, Glad you liked the poem,I thought it made a good point - I am the worst one for not writing on the back of my own photos! Viv, I have entered it on the poets pot, a while back though. My mother gave it to me after seeing it in a magazine and thought it would fit into my files amongst all the unknown, but somehow connected, photos I have! Regards, Frances

Hi Frances, Many thanks for the words of "The Strangers in the Box". What a beautiful poem, and so apt. I'll definitely find a way of incorporating this into my site. Thanks again. Kathy, Yes, I did receive your e-mail about John's grave in Cairo and my apologies for not acknowledging. I'm really glad you liked the photos - it was a pleasure to be of assistance. My thanks to all for the kind words of support for the site. Hope you enjoy dipping into it once in a while. David

Hi David - here is the poem. THE STRANGERS IN THE BOX Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I`ve often seen, At the pictures, black and white, Faces proud, still, serene. I wish I knew the people, These strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories Are lost among my socks. I wonder what their lives were like, How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I`ll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time To tell who, what, where or when, These faces of my heritage Would come to life again. Could this become the fate Of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories Someday to be passed away? Make time to save your stories, Seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours could be The strangers in the box. Pam Harazim Regards, Frances

Hi Frances, Thanks you for the kind words. I have to admit it does seem a great pity seeing all these old photographs lying around unwanted - hence my little collection. Now to show my ignorance. I haven't heard of the poem "The Strangers in the Box". It certainly sounds fitting for the website. Could you let me have the words and author's name, please? I'll then see if how I can best include it. Regards David

Hi David, Have had a look at your site and found it really interesting. I love all the old photos and am lucky enough to have quite a few of my ancestors, plus several greetings cards. Do you know the poem about old photos called "The strangers in the box"? It would fit in perfectly with your site! Keep up the good work, I for one will regularly check to see your updates. Regards, Frances

Amanda: Many thanks - glad you managed to view the photos and cards. I've changed the wording on the links to make things clearer and at the (current end of both lists) have provided links to get back to the home page. Debra: Thanks for your encouraging words - "Big oaks from little acorns" (I hope!). Only one of my ancestors currently appears on the site - my grandfather was a Welsh Guardsman! David

Amanda Many thanks for taking a look at the site. I may need to make things clearer on the pages but, essentially, the 'Next' link towards the end of each page takes you to the next page in the list. If you look near the top of each page you will see another link "p1 [2, etc] - View Photos". Click there and you should get to the relevant photo album page. To get back to the List page from the album page, you will need to use the back button on your browser. Hope this helps. David

Hi David, Was interested in looking at your site, however I could only view the descriptions about each photo and postcard, no actual photo's, I clicked on the the next link and it took me to a page thay says geocities does not exist. Hope you can rectify this. Good luck. Amanda

For those of you who may be interested, I have just started a new website at http://uk.geocities(.)com/ancestralpast/ - take out brackets as usual - containing a very small (and I am talking about 15 items so far), but growing collection of old photographs and early greetings cards. In most cases, there are few clues as to the identity of those photographed but I hope that some who visit this site may be able to help me put names to faces. A proven descendant would, of course, be an added bonus! In that event, I would be happy to send the descendant a digital image and/or discuss the return of the original to its rightful family! Please take a look if you have a few spare minutes - and don't forget to pop back from time to time. Regards David
