Member Since: January 2004 Posts: 5 Send Message	I wonder if anyone can help me - -I have a marriage certificate from 1860 which gives the brides age as a Minor, obviously she is under 21 but could it mean she was under 16 as I believe it was legal to marry younger then. All other certificates I have actually state the age when under 21.

	Until raised to 16 in 1929, twelve was the minimum age at which a girl could marry (14 for a boy). Until 1969 when it was lowered to 18, parental consent was necessary until 21, and a certificate may thus only record a party was of full age or a minor. Dierdre X

Member Since: May 2003 Posts: 1,383 Send Message	Jill My G grandparents were listed as minors but as one was born in 1839 and the other 1840 it was quite clear they were under 21. Can you find out there birth dates. Try the LDS site Family search Pat
