Hello everybody, Just received a death certificate of my husband's 3rd great grandfather who died in 1848. The cause of death is put down as "mortifcation". What is that please? Pauline

Mortification is 'Gangrene, necrosis or severe infection' - not pleasant at all - I know from experience. Maz. XX

Pauline, it means Gangrene of necrotic tissue and necrotic tissue means dead flesh.
