Detecting proxy settings?

OK, here's another Internet Explorer teaser! Every so often when I want to click on a page or bring up another website, I get the following message appear on the status bar - "Detecting proxy settings". What happens is that whilst it is doing this, nothing loads and everything waits for this process to finish. I have checked my Connection settings on Internet Options and in both Settings and LAN settings, neither of the Proxy Server boxes are ticked. Hence, I'm wondering is there some other way of getting round this problem - it's annoying have to wait for the browser to decide that it is now ready to procede.

Colin, Haven't time now as I'm due out for work fairly soon but will have a read when I get home. Thanks for that. Best, Andy.
