Anyone out there? This is my second posting. I've been looking for my Richard and Charlotte WHITFORD for so long. They were in Liverpool at the birth of their son Robert in 1814 when Richard was recorded as a mariner, but that's all I really know, apart from a vague possible link of a marriage in the Isle of Man. It has occured to me that Richard could have been a pirate or a privateer. Now is I am casting a net looking for anyone with ideas or expertise in this area. Any thoughts anyone? Jan in Oz

Jan, I have no idea if this is going to help or hinder! All my research is done online in the S:A: Archives in the KAB Depot. (Cape Town) where I found the following information. Notarial Protocol. Notary, JJF Wagener. Declaration: Richard Whitford, Turriman Tucher and John Urquhart of the English Ship Exetor or Exeter regarding damage to the ship due to storms on the voyage. 1797. This document can only be transcribed in South Africa by someone going to the Archives. I use the services of a genealogist to transcribe the documents I am interested in. Sometimes I hit the jackpot and find a gold mine of information and other times I am not so lucky. In my opinion it would appear too much of a coincidence not to be the same person but that is up to you to decide. If you are interested in the reference number I can email it to you. As well as the name and email address of Graham Lloyd the genealogist who does my transcriptions. His fees are very reasonable. Happy Hunting Lindy

Hi Lindzay, Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. However, I hope you're still looking at the board. That could indeed be my Richard Whitford. I would really appreciate the reference number and details of your genealogist. Thanks again Jan in Oz
